Recent heavy rains caused the Meramec River to flow over its banks and flood several areas around the county, including Old Cove Road near Moselle, where up to three or four feet of water forced the road to be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. The road reopened during the day on Thursday as the water receded.

A 28-year-old St. Clair man was killed in this crash on Highway 47 Monday, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Colin P. Morrow was driving a 2004 Saturn Vue northbound on Highway 47 at 8:30 a.m. when it traveled into the path of a 2013 Chevrolet pickup driven southbound by Tina L. Taylor, 44, St. Clair, the patrol said. Morrow was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital Washington at 9:36 a.m. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Jerry D. Derr, 55, Union, was injured in this motorcycle crash Friday on Highway A south of Highway BB. The 5:27 p.m. crash occurred when the 1997 Honda Valkrie left Highway A while southbound and struck a mailbox, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Grant N. Henry, 16, Union, was ejected from this 1992 Ford Mustang following a crash on Old Highway 50 before 7 a.m. Thursday. The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Henry was driving too fast for conditions while eastbound on Old Highway 50 when he lost control of the car. The vehicle left the road, struck a ditch and became airborne before hitting a utility pole and overturning. Henry was flown by air ambulance to St. Louis Children's Hospital. A fire destroyed this Hall Brothers Lumber truck Monday morning while it was parked off Mulberry Street south of Locust Street in Union. A worker was unloading insulation when the truck caught fire, witnesses said. No injuries were reported. See the Wednesday Missourian for more information.
