Arnette, Allen Lead FRC Football

A wide range of talent was represented on the 2009 Four Rivers Conference football team.

The league's head coaches selected first, second and honorable mention teams.



The FRC offensive player of the year was Pacific senior quarterback Blake Arnette.

For the season, Arnette completed 101 of 194 passes for 1,467 yards with 13 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also rushed for 1,515 yards and 25 touchdowns.

The FRC defensive player of the year was St. Clair senior defensive tackle Russell Allen.

Allen was a force for the Bulldogs, finishing with 46 total tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 4 1/2 sacks, three forced fumbles and two pass deflections.

The FRC coach of the year was Pacific's George Hinkle, who guided the Indians to records of 8-3 overall and 6-0 in the FRC to go with conference and district championships.

First-Team Offense

* Quarterback Blake Arnette of Pacific (unanimous);

* Running backs Chris Frye of Sullivan (unanimous) and Jason Kottwitz of Owensville;

* Wide receivers George Hinkle III of Pacific, Bobby Vondera of Union and Ryan Coons of Union;

* Offensive linemen Russell Allen of St. Clair, Griffin Daehnke of Union, Ben Britton of Sullivan, Jacob Nutt of Pacific and Bob Heibeck of St. Clair; and

* Tight end Greg Wright of Hermann.

First-Team Defense

* Defensive tackles Russell Allen of St. Clair (unanimous), Ben Britton of Sullivan and Olon Parker of Union;

* Defensive ends Bobby Vondera of Union and Jacob Nutt of Pacific;

* Linebackers Ryan Baser of Union, Marco Romano of Pacific, Gabe Hollander of Owensville and Isaac Reed of St. Clair; and

* Defensive backs Chris Frye of Sullivan, Blake Arnette of Pacific, Bryan Schaefer of Union and Justin Wurtz of Hermann.

First-Team Special Teams

* Kicker Austin Mathis of Pacific, punter Chris Savage of Union, returner Blake Arnette of Pacific and utility player Philip Wright of Hermann.

Second-Team Offense

* Quarterback Chris Savage of Union;

* Running backs Ryan Baser of Union and Micah Bell of St. Clair;

* Wide receivers Tyler Karnes of St. James, Luke Mayer of Sullivan and Bryan Schaefer of Union;

* Offensive linemen Ryan Farrell of Owensville, Marco Romano of Pacific, Cody Post of Union, Tyler Gaither of Union and Tyler Wagnon of St. James; and

* Tight end Adam Parmentier of St. Clair.

Second-Team Defense

* Defensive tackles Bob Heibeck of St. Clair, Jake Hinson of Owensville and Griffin Daehnke of Union;

* Defensive ends David Ray of Sullivan and Garret Baker of Owensville;

* Linebackers Luke Mayer of Sullivan, George Hinkle III of Pacific, Dalton Grosse of Hermann and Tyler Thompson of Union; and

* Defensive backs Jason Kottwitz of Owensville, Andrew Decker of St. Clair, Mike Little of St. Clair and Ryan Cooper of Owensville.

Second-Team Special Teams

* Kicker Kyle Vatterott of Pacific, punter Nick Buchanon of Pacific, returner Jason Kottwitz of Owensville and utility player Isaac Reed of St. Clair.

Honorable Mention Offense

* Quarterback Jake Harlan of St. James;

* Running backs Coty Kremer of Pacific and Aaron Walker of Owensville;

* Wide receivers Andrew Decker of St. Clair, Alex Gentry of Pacific and Zack Hardcastle of Pacific;

* Offensive linemen Jeff Moore of St. Clair, Jeff Deason of St. Clair, Kyle Vatterott of Pacific, Dylan Gann of Pacific, Chris Hartnett of Pacific and Cody Nichols of Union; and

* Tight end Danny Jernigan of St. James.

Honorable Mention Defense

* Defensive tackles Jacob King of Owensville and Dillon Horn of Pacific;

* Defensive end Kyle Vatterott of Pacific;

* Linebackers Josh Wright of St. James, Chris Barnwell of St. Clair, Coty Kremer of Pacific, Jimmy Morgan of Pacific, Alex Gentry of Pacific, Dane Paneitz of Sullivan and Travis Sanders of St. Clair; and

* Defensive backs Colin Rosenow of St. James, Zack Hardcastle of Pacific and Nick Buchanan of Pacific.

Honorable Mention Special Teams

* Returner Bryan Schaefer of Union.

Pacific won the FRC title with a 6-0 record. Union finished second with a 5-1 mark followed by Sullivan at 4-2, St. Clair at 3-3, Owensville at 2-4, Hermann at 1-5 and St. James at 0-6.
