Hospital Enters Agreement With Cardiologist Group

St. John's Mercy Hospital has entered into an exclusive agreement with an integrated group of cardiologists, St. John's Mercy Heart and Vascular, to provide cardiology services at the hospital.

The group will provide both inpatient and outpatient patient care, including procedures performed in the cardiac catheterization laboratory and emergency department coverage for cardiac cases.

"By entering into an agreement with St. John's Mercy's integrated group of cardiologists, we can ensure our community has local access to cardiology services of the highest quality and safety," said Terri L. McLain, president of St. John's Mercy Hospital.

"For the first time, St. John's Mercy Hospital has an integrated group of cardiologists dedicated to serving Washington. These cardiologists are committed to strengthening and expanding cardiology services for local residents. Patients who wish to stay in the community for cardiology services can do so and know that they are receiving exceptional care."

St. John's Mercy Heart and Vascular is a 17-physician cardiology group practice with offices in north, south and west St. Louis counties and Franklin County. Two of the group's cardiologists, Dr. Joseph Polizzi and Dr. John Brunts, currently practice out of the office located in the Mercy Medical Building at 851 E. Fifth St., Suite 304.

In addition to providing cardiology services locally, this agreement will enhance the ability to coordinate with specialists at St. John's Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis as necessary. For example, close collaboration between St. John's Mercy cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons from St. John's Mercy Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery allows for comprehensive treatment planning and care coordination for patients with heart disease.

The agreement between St. John's Mercy Hospital and St. John's Mercy Heart and Vascular is effective as of Nov. 16, 2009.

Physicians in Washington Mo
Just heard this unbelievable story. We had to see a heart doctor quickly one day last year and were so happy to find such competence in a local doctor. We were so glad we didn't have to drive into St. Louis to get an excellent physician. Dr. John Mohart attended to us and we couldn't have been more confident that we were in good hands. Thank goodness it all turned out well. Please keep these doctors on staff!

Doctor Dan is wrong
PFHC would love to own a hospital. In fact, we tried to buy the hospital in Washington a couple of years ago but St. John's would not sell.

Why has this article been removed from reader's view? Trying to hide all the negative comments about the hospital?

Dear Terri and Mercy Executives,
The events of the last week have been personally devastating for my husband and me. I have not eaten or slept in 8 days. My husband and his partners have been, from the day they arrived in this town, deeply committed to serving our people. They have made every effort and personal sacrifice for our patients in the community. They all, I know, leave their homes between 4:30 and 5 am and do not come back home until after 8 pm most nights. John rarely sees my children wake up and he rarely eats dinner with me and my children because he is working. We have never complained about this- it is what we went into medicine to do. But for you to claim that John and Brian and Mike walked out on you for financial reasons makes me- literally – sick to my stomach.
All we ever wanted was to make a state-of-the –art hospital here in Washington. Our community can support this and we are committed to this. Do you think John enjoys driving back and forth on Highway 44 all the time? I worry every day he will be in an accident. He cathed here for years waiting for promises to be kept and finally could wait no more. He would love to have all his work five minutes from our home, here. But he is not willing to do that if it means delivering an inferior standard of care to patients. Our patients who live here deserve to have their money stay in this community. You say our "little" community cannot support a real, state of the art hospital- but you are wrong. We want a first class hospital here- and will do whatever it takes to make that happen- with cutting edge technology that is the best in the nation and staffed by our local doctors. I will not settle for anything less. So I ask you, please, please, either stop sending our money to other cities and put it here – in our town- or go back to St. Louis and let us create our own community hospital so that we can care for ourselves.

Mrs. Ann-Elizabeth Mohart
