Dailey & Vincent is the pairing of well-known bluegrass performers Jamie Dailey, former lead singer and guitarist for Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver; and Darrin Vincent, who before forming Dailey & Vincent was guitar and mandolin player and harmony vocalist with Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder. The New York Times called them "the most celebrated new bluegrass act of the last few years." An October 9 Wall Street Journal feature on Dailey & Vincent ("A Bluegrass Duo Reigns Again") began with, "A new dynasty may be taking shape in bluegrass music."
In addition to Entertainer of the Year, Dailey & Vincent book home 2009 IBMA Awards for Vocal Group of the Yearand Gospel Recorded Performance of the Year, for "On the Other Side." Last year they took home IBMA Awards forEntertainer of the Year, Vocal Group of the Year, Album of the Year (for their self-titled Rounder release),Gospel Recorded Performance of the Year (for "By the Mark"), Emerging Artist of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year (Dailey) and Recorded Event of the Year, for Vincent's participation in the Everett Lilly & Everybody and Their Brother project. No other artist has ever won Emerging Artist and Entertainer in the same year, a feat all the more incredible because the duo released their debut album in 2008. They also won 6 SPBGMA Bluegrass Awards at the ceremony on February 15, 2009, including Bluegrass Band of the Year, Vocal Group of the Year and Song of the Year (for "By the Mark").
Dailey & Vincent were guests this year on A Prairie Home Companion on February 7, and they released their second Rounder album, Brothers From Different Mothers, on March 31. It debuted at #1 on Billboard's Top Bluegrass Albums chart, and it has been in the top 5 for 12 weeks. It is currently #1 on the Bluegrass Unlimited National Survey album chart, while lead track "Head Hung Down" tops the Bluegrass Unlimited song chart. Dailey & Vincent filmed a video for "On the Other Side," which debuted on CMT Pure in July.
On October 20 Dailey & Vincent released their first gospel album, a collection of a cappella songs called Singing From the Heart. The project began in 2001, long before Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent began their career as a duo. It was a labor of love, an album of a cappella spiritual songs honoring the Church of Christ's practice of singing without instruments and benefitting the Tennessee Bible College in Cookeville, Tennessee, which is a Church of Christ institution.
Dailey & Vincent was released on January 29, 2008, and debuted at #2 on Billboard's Top Bluegrass Albums chart, where it reached #1 in June 2008 and was in the top 10 for 40 weeks. The album was #9 on Billboard's Year-End Top Bluegrass Albums chart, and Dailey & Vincent were #7 on Billboard's year-end Top Bluegrass Artists chart.
Dailey & Vincent was also #1 for 3 months-June, July and August-on the Bluegrass Unlimited National Bluegrass Survey album chart, yielded the #1 singles "By the Mark," "Sweet Carrie" and "More Than a Name on a Wall," and was included on several year-end "best of 2008" album listings. Ed Morris at CMT.com noted, "When Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent's voices converge into a plaintive wail, it's like hearing the Louvin Brothers reborn -- but with even more power and urgency."
Dailey & Vincent made their Grand Ole Opry debut on December 29, 2007, and have returned for several guest appearances. They played over 130 concert dates in 2008 and have well over 130 booked for their Rolling Your Way 2009 tour. In 2008 they were featured on the February cover of Bluegrass Now, the March/April cover of Bluegrass Music Profiles, and the June cover of Bluegrass Unlimited.
Jamie Dailey (guitar, bass, lead and harmony vocals) was hired by Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver in 1998 as lead, baritone and tenor singer and bass player. Three years later he switched to guitar, but he continued to sing lead and harmony vocals on the concert trail and on nine of the band's albums. During Jamie's tenure the band won 13 IBMA Awards--including Vocal Group of the Year from 2001-2007 and Song of the Year for "Blue Train," which featured his singing-and earned four Grammy® and five Dove Award nominations. Jamie has recorded with Dolly Parton and Rhonda Vincent, appeared on five Gaither Homecoming DVD's, and was a guest on Ricky Skaggs' Grammy-winning Brand New Stringsalbum.
Darrin Vincent (mandolin, bass, guitar, lead and harmony vocals) started singing at age three and playing music at age six as part of his family band, The Sally Mountain Show, along with sister Rhonda Vincent. As a member of Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder for the past ten years, Darrin has won five Grammy Awards (Ancient Tones, Soldier of the Cross, "A Simple Life," Brand New Strings, Instrumentals) and eight IBMA Awards for Instrumental Group of the Year. He also performed on Grammy-winning albums by Dolly Parton (The Grass is Blue) and Jimmy Sturr (Top of the World). He has performed and recorded with a multitude of other artists including Nora Jones, Emmylou Harris, Earl Scruggs, Bruce Hornsby, Vince Gill, John Hartford and Keith Urban. Darrin earned three Grammy nominations for co-producing Rhonda Vincent's One Step Ahead, Ragin' Live and All American Bluegrass Girl. His other production credits include Susie Luchsinger's Dove Award-nominated Count It All Joy, The Cherryholmes' Bluegrass Vagabonds, and Hunter Berry's IBMA-nominated Wow Baby.
Completing Dailey & Vincent's lineup are Jeff Parker on mandolin; Joe Dean on banjo, guitar and mandolin; and Adam Haynes on fiddle.
