Surveillance Cameras Make City Hall Safer

Employees at Pacific City Hall are safer thanks to the installation of outside surveillance cameras aimed at parking lots, entrances and the exterior of the building, City Administrator Harold Selby said.

The monitors show what is occurring around the building, said Selby, who was able to purchase the set of cameras with a grant.

Speaking at the Oct. 20 board of aldermen meeting, Selby said the new camera system went on line during the past week. He urged officials to go downstairs and see what the dispatcher can see.

"She can see around the building, all entrances and down hallways," he said. "We're responsible for the safety of people in this building. These cameras help us make this a safer building."

Mayor Herb Adams said the new cameras are part of his mission to enhance the city police department.

"This is just like the new radios that were recently bought for every police officer," Adams said. "We send our officers out into the community alone. Without having good radios and one for every officer, we've been treading water for a long time. I want it known that I will continue to educate and attract good police officers and give them the tools they need to do their jobs.

"Making us a safe city is one of my top priorities," he added. "And these cameras are just one of the ways we can do that."

Confused?
Isn't the Pacific City Hall in the same building as the Police Station? Is the Police Department that inept that a criminal would go right up to that building to do something? Wasting tax dollars at its best right there.
