"I've worked with him on the park board for a short while and have really enjoyed working with him," said Alderwoman Connie Marrocco. "He's a very outstanding person and it's a real pleasure to work with him."
Tate said that he's always followed local politics and has wanted to be an alderman for a while.
"I've always wanted to do it," he said. "I wanted to serve the citizens of this city and help this community grow and develop... I've always kind of had a knack for politics in general... I thought this would be a good opportunity."
Tate said the top thing he wants to help the city focus on is economic development.
"I think the big issue for St. Clair is to really get some retail development in here to generate some revenue for the city to help alleviate some of these tight budgets that we're currently facing," he said. "These are some hard economic times and if we can get some retail development in here, so when the economy takes off, we can really grow quickly, I think."
Tate added that he's excited for the unique opportunity to sit on the board of aldermen during the excitement of seeing the development of a TIF district.
Davis resigned the seat in September after taking work at the Chrysler plant in Kokomo, Ind. The slot will be up for election again in April and Tate will have the option of running as an incumbent.
