Red Ribbon Week is the nation's oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation, reaching millions of Americans during the last week of October every year. By wearing red ribbons and participating in community and anti-drug events, young people pledge to live a drug-free life and pay tribute to DEA Special Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, who died at the hands of drug traffickers in Mexico while fighting the battle against illegal drugs to keep our country and children safe.
Three other events were held at local home football games including Washington, Sullivan and Union. Citizens may participate in this collection event at St. Clair High School on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Participants must be 18 years old and have proper identification. A registration table will be set up and participants will be asked for identification to verify age and the address on the medications. No personal information will be taken other than the town of residence. Permanent marker will be used to black out identifying information. Drugs will be identified and calculated. Medication will be given to law enforcement for disposal.
