"It looks awesome," she said. "I think we're all getting very excited and ready to get in there."
The addition will provide more space for an expanded free weights and cardio area, a new aerobics studio and cycling room, larger nursery, restrooms and additional space for youth and family programs, as well as community events.
The current building has about 32,000 square feet.
As construction nears its end, Toedebusch said some areas will have to be closed temporarily to move equipment and complete all of the upgrades.
The current fitness center is tentatively set to close Oct. 19, and will remain closed for about two weeks.
"We'll be updating that area with new floors and new electric," Toedebusch said. "But the rest of the building will be open.
"We're also working on adding some programs and cross-training opportunities for those members who regularly use the fitness center," she added.
Some free weights will be available in the aerobics area, depending on regular class schedules.
"We know this is a big inconvenience for our members, but we close the pool every year for two weeks for cleaning so we hope everyone understands," Toedebusch said.
A small open house will be held in November for the new addition, but a larger grand opening is being planned for after the first of the year.
Toedebusch said planning is under way for class schedules utilizing the new areas.
"I think we'll have a soft schedule for the rest of the year because we will need to determine the best way to use the space," she said. "We'll also be looking at traffic flow and other things like that."
The YMCA broke ground on the $2 million addition in November 2008. The general contractor is Wachter.
Since the current facility opened 10 years ago, membership has grown every year, Toedebusch said.
