At that time PNC's acquisition made the combined company the nation's fifth-largest bank based on deposits and fourth largest based on number of branches.
The bank's deposit base at that time grew to $180 billion.
Since that time, PNC has closed a number of National City branches, however.
In the St. Louis area, the company has branches in Chesterfield, Arnold, Maryland Heights, Union, Warrenton, Washington, Eureka and more.
The changeover of the Washington location is part of the company's plan to convert all National City branches which is scheduled for the second half of this year through the end of 2010.
PNC, a Pitsburgh, Pa., based company, has branches in 14 states including Missouri and Illinois.
In August 2004, 36 area Allegiant Bank locations became National City.
