Send Back Your Checks From Feds

To The Editor:
I recently read a letter to the editor titled "The Government Is Good," written by a citizen from St. Clair.

In the letter the citizen said how much she liked the government and suggested that those of us who do not like the government should send back our Social Security checks, send back our disability checks, send back our welfare checks and send back our VA checks.

To begin, I take particular offense to the idea that I should send back my VA check. I will send back my VA check just as soon as I can send back the 13-inch scar running down my arm resulting from an Iraqi rocket propelled grenade explosion.

I will send back my VA check when I regain the feeling in my ring and small fingers on my right hand from the same explosion. I will send back my VA check when I find the other half of my front tooth that was knocked out when my light armored vehicle drove into a 10-foot-deep tank ditch at 30 mph and my face was slammed into a gunner's periscope.

My point is I have earned my government pension and of all of the government checks that the St. Clair resident suggested be sent back the only one that is actually constitutional is in fact the VA check! Every other government agency, i.e., Social Security, welfare and many others are simply and completely unconstitutional!

Yes, please do send back your checks, send them all back!
We are a country founded on personal responsibility and liberty and when we accept the government checks of which you love so much you give your liberty away.

Please, please consider how much more money you would have had if you had invested or saved your weekly usurpation to Social Security and actually earned decent interest!

You can have your measly Social Security check ma'am I'll take care of my own finances. Besides, I am 30 years old - at the current rate there will be no Social Security check for me to send back anyway.

Stop letting the government take care of you, let's take care of ourselves!

No misunderstanding
Snoopin you just do not get it. How little you pay into social security, and figure out how much you get back. The majority of people get back far more than they paid in. With the long life span people have now. You could definately have paid into an investment co. you probably would have lost a lot within the last 2 yrs. I know people that have, a friend of mine is so glad that she will be getting her SS for the first time next month, after loosing a few thousand in the stock market. I also think you were very disrespectful accusing someone on being on welfare becaus of a letter they wrote. Remember people making a living in small town American, did not make huge wages. I am one of those people, also did not have health insurance, for a long time. My husband was in the service when men had to join up during the Korean war. He did not mind doing his duty, and feels that he saw so much of the world and it did educate him, of life styles of other Countries

I think you all misunderstood what the gentlemen is saying
This man is a Veteran. He deserves whatever he receives. I don't think he literally meant for 'you all' to send back your checks. And I don't think he is whining, I think he is trying to make a point to how absolutely stupid some people can be by opening their mouths before they think. Those of us on social security do so because we need it to live on, however, most of us worked and paid into that system because 'we had no choice' but to pay into it, we were forced to do so, just like those who work do now. Had we been given a choice, I think most of us would have kept that little weekly amount of money and invested it ourselves. Social Security unconstitutional, probably, mandatory, yes. When reading these things, you can pick out those who are living on welfare, if you will, but lack the guts to thank those of us who work. And for the lady who likes the government and request that people send back their checks. Makes one wonder why she likes the government! Could it be that she gets a 'free' government check each month, probably so.! Keep whining deary....

I appriciate my SS check
What another party, what in the world is the constitution party, was'nt that written 200 yrs ago, The men back then, did not have enough sense to think or care about widow's, and wives with children who were deserted by their husbands and left to starve. maybe you should go back and live in the times that was written,. I am so glad that social security was taken out of my check, when I started work in the 60s. I did not make a large wage, and after buying food etc I could not save any money. Try living pay check to pay check and saving. I am now receiving SS It helps out a lot..

oh good a whinning soldier
look man we all are sorry that you went to iraq and cut your arm. it is sad that we forget the everyday freedoms we appreciate because of our soldiers, but, don't whine about whether you earned your pension. this previous letter was just based on an attitude of "if you dont like the usa move your sorry ass or stop holding your hand out to a country you hate so much." that was the whole point, it had nothing to do with your situation. please stop playing the pity card.
