"This process always starts with a phone call," Hawkins said.
"Whether someone recently lost their job, has money to invest and wants to be in business for themselves, or whether they want to franchise an existing business, they're going to make a phone call and ask a few questions," she said. "Then we'll meet face to face anywhere that's comfortable for them."
As a real estate agent, Hawkins was familiar with the process of buying and selling existing business properties.
When she decided she wanted to have her own business, rather than start from scratch, she contacted Prosperous Franchise Services, a company that helps individuals find a franchise that fits their skills and the amount of money they have to invest.
During the one-on-one process of searching for exactly the right business, Hawkins asked her husband to join her and start the same franchise consulting firm here.
Prosperous Franchise Service will guide small businesses that want to franchise their business through the complex legal process.
"If a small business can be replicated - if someone else can do what you do - franchising your business is a great way to increase wealth," Hawkins said. "Using an intensive interview process, we can help business owners determine whether their small business is a candidate to be franchised and then help them do it."
The interview process is free. If an agreement is reached to proceed with franchising, the next step is to meet with franchise attorneys at the parent company, Prosperous Franchise Services, which has a "25-year-old network of consultants with experience in helping individuals find the American dream," Hawkins said.
The firm has researched hundreds of franchise businesses in a wide range of industries that can help individuals become business owners without the risk of a do-it-yourself startup.
"Starting out on your own is very risky. Many startup businesses fail in the first year," Hawkins said. "Starting with a model of proven success in a field that matches your talents really reduces that risk."
Ideal candidates for franchise ownership are individuals who have gone through corporate layoffs, according to Hawkins, or people who have dreams of owning their own business.
In some franchise opportunities, the investor doesn't have to operate the business. They hire experts in that field to do that and just serve as owners.
"There is a place in our economy for new businesses in the automotive, health and wellness, maid service, business services and restaurants," Hawkins said.
"What Prosperous Franchise Services does is help people who want to be business owners find the business that matches their lifestyle, business and financial goals," she said. "Most importantly, we match clients with the franchise that meets their unique personal and professional goals."
