Residents Oppose New Hotel

A group of Gray Summit residents who oppose a new hotel, apartment complex adjacent to their subdivision, took their opposition to the city of Pacific which would have to agree to hook up to the public sewer system for the development.

At the Sept. 1 board of aldermen meeting, residents of Pine Lake Estates Subdivision presented the city with a four-page petition containing 53 signatures collected between July 20-26.

Mayor Herb Adams accepted the petition, telling aldermen that he had provided each of them a set of the signatures.

"The petition is to oppose construction of housing in front of Pine Lake Estates Subdivision," Adams said. "This development is located before you reach Purina Farms on the left-hand side.

"This petition is not anything we can act on, but I wanted you to be aware that there is a petition," he said. "To be honest about these folks' intentions, they are aware that a potential development there would have to tie into the Brush Creek Sewer District and city would have to be agreeable to that."

Adams said the petitioners want Pacific officials to know that they oppose the proposed development.

"Just for the record, the city attorney, city administrator and mayor have no recommendation," he added. "I am just bringing this to your attention."
The petition summary and background read:

"The residents of Pine Lake Estates wish to voice their opposition to building any form of housing in the plat that is currently being evaluated for a hotel/apartments. We feel it would decrease our property values, increase traffic and create a dangerous entrance to an already busy two-lane road.

"We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our leaders to act now and dismiss all requests for building permits pertaining to housing on this piece of property."
