Playing its home opener, Washington got quite a fight against Warrenton, but survived a GAC North slugfest with Warrenton, 34-27.
With the score tied 27-27, the Blue Jays scored the game-winning touchdown on a three-yard run by quarterback Justin Hinni with 56 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.
"I was so impressed with the fight in both teams," said Washington head Coach Zach Schneider. "This conference is catching up. It's not just Timberland and Washington anymore. Every week is going to be a battle. Warrenton is a team where if they had 20 more kids, they would be a force."
Hinni carried the ball 24 times for 130 yards and scored two touchdowns. He also was 9-20 passing for 153 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.
His touchdown passes were of 56 yards and 47 yards to Adam Gildehaus and Tommy Reilly, respectively.
"I knew all week Warrenton was going to come here and play hard. They did last year and this year was the same," Hinni said. "We were still able to overcome it and win. That's all that matters."
Kevin Gratza added a 17-yard touchdown run on an end-around play for the Blue Jays during the second quarter.
Warrenton (0-2, 0-1) led 7-6 after one quarter.
Washington (2-0, 2-0) outscored the Warriors 21-6 in the second period to lead 27-13 at halftime.
The teams combined for three touchdowns, two by the Blue Jays, in the final 34 seconds of the first half.
Warrenton got back into the came by outscoring Washington 14-0 in the third quarter, making the score a 27-27 tie heading into the fourth quarter.
After the Blue Jays took the lead late in the fourth quarter, Warrenton had one final chance, but could not convert.
The Warriors got as close as the Washington 24-yard line, but Gratza intercepted a pass at the 12-yard line on the game's final play.

Borgia 31, Clayton 7
For the first time in many years, the Borgia Knights have started the season with two victories.
Borgia won Friday night over Clayton at Gay Field, 31-7. The Knights dominated the Greyhounds (1-1) for the majority of the game. Clayton scored its lone touchdown after the Knights started to rotate younger players into the contest.
For Borgia, the player of the game was senior quarterback Mikey Watkins, who ran for three touchdowns and threw for another. For the game, Watkins was 9-11 or 161 yards and one touchdown throwing the ball. On the ground, he carried nine times for 56 yards and three touchdowns.
Watkins ran for touchdowns of one, two and 17 yards in the game. The touchdown pass was a 47-yard trick play.
Borgia Head Coach Dale Gildehaus hatched a flea flicker from his playbook. The line gave Watkins the time he needed to find a wide open Ian Parks, who caught the ball and hustled into the end zone untouched in the final three minutes of the first half. Watkins had his pick of receivers as three Knights were out there uncovered.
Junior Brett Strauser led the running back committee with 16 carries for 72 yards. Overall the Knights ran for 191 yards in the game.
Defensively, junior linebacker Joe Newbanks led the team with seven tackles and one sack. Senior Shay Kiddy had four tackles and a sack. Freshman Justin Graham continued to impress at the kicker position, booting four extra points and a 23-yard field goal.
Borgia hosts Owensville, a 51-23 winner at Blair Oaks, next Friday at 7 p.m.

After pregame ceremonies celebrated the opening of St. Clair's new turf field, visiting Salem took control of the game in a 30-0 victory.
"Salem did a fantastic job getting after us in every facet of the game," said St. Clair Head Coach John Butler. "We have to regroup and make some improvements before next week."
The Tigers (1-1) controlled the game against St. Clair (0-2).
"Salem is a very good football team," Butler said. "But they're not 30-0 better than us. We have some work to do before next week."
Poplar Bluff 35, Union 8
Union jumped on top of Poplar Bluff Friday night with its defense, recording a safety in the first quarter.
