Eight people were arrested over the weekend on DWI charges during a special drunk driving crackdown by Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers.

The eight-hour "Operation A.R.R.E.S.T." (Alcohol Related Response Enforcement Strike Team) was staged between 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, and 3 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 30, in the county.

The crackdown involved six troopers concentrating on identifying hazardous motor vehicle operations.

A total of 47 vehicles were stopped. Thirty-three arrests were made and 43 warnings issued, according to the patrol.

Besides the eight drunk driving arrests, additional summonses were issued for various traffic violations including speeding and seat belt violations.

The purpose of Operation A.R.R.E.S.T. is to increase the motoring public's awareness of the potential hazards of operating a motor vehicle while in an intoxicated condition, according to Capt. Ronald S. Johnson, Troop C commanding officer.

"Driving while intoxicated continues to be responsible for approximately 25 percent of all fatal crashes on Missouri highways. Operation A.R.R.E.S.T. will assist in reducing the number of intoxicated drivers, traffic crashes, and fatalities that occur on our roadways," Johnson said.

Special drunk drivers?
Good Job troopers, I have been reading the news on big rigs, there sure has been a lot of drugs, guns, and alcohol on those tractor trailer crashes. One semi truck driver jumped out of his cab and opened fire with an M1 carbine on troopers in California. Truck driver arrested for 30-ton overload. A semi crash lands an Indiana woman in jail on drug charges. Truck driver arrested with several unauthorized prescription drugs, including Fentanyl patches. A truck driver is facing a number of charges for allegedly driving his semi drunk. Semi truck driver police believe to have been drunk crashed into a utility pole. Fifty-nine-year-old Fred Wilson was drunk driving a tractor trailer. A long-haul trucker admitted in court Monday that he not only drove drunk all this summer but was drinking behind the wheel when the tractor-trailer crashed. An association made up of legal professionals says there are too many unsafe trucks! The American Trucking Association feels you will not get your toilet paper if state troopers start getting rid of the bad apples.
