Zelda Pearl Bailey, nee Studdard, 86, Sullivan, formerly of St. Clair, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, in Sullivan.

Mrs. Bailey was born Aug. 2, 1923, in Sullivan, the daughter of Newt Studdard and wife Bessie Lee, nee Griffith.
She was united in marriage Aug. 2, 1947, to Robert Edward Bailey. Two children came to bless this union.
Mrs. Bailey is survived by her son, Dale E. Bailey and wife Kathy, Washington; one brother, Lawrance "Buck" Studdard and wife Laura Jane, Sullivan; four grandchildren, Nancy Roberts, Robertsville, Daniel Bailey, New Haven, Gregory Bailey, St. Louis, and Jonathan Bailey, Kansas City; one great-grandson, Bruce "Dude" Boston, Robertsville; two sisters-in-law, Nellie Studdard, Sullivan, and Janice Bailey, Union; nieces; nephews; great- and great-great-nieces and -nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Newt and Bessie Studdard; her husband, Robert Bailey; her daughter and son-in-law, Gale and George "Skip" Roberts; four brothers, Ralph, Harold, Charles and Tracy "Tate" Studdard; and two sisters, Rella and Frances Studdard.
Mrs. Bailey was a Christian and member of the Church of Christ, St. Clair. She had many pastimes but especially loved to sew and make quilts which will be treasured heirlooms for years to come.
She took care of her garden. Although she never worked out of the home, Mrs. Bailey took pride in caring for her family and home.
Spending time with her family and grandchildren held a special place in Mrs. Bailey's heart as it did in theirs.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 20, at Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair, with the Rev. Phil Turner officiating.
Interment was at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis.
Memorials to the Susan G. Komen Foundation are preferred.
The family was served by Russell Colonial Funeral Home, St. Clair.
