High School football's dress rehearsal for the upcoming 2009 season is scheduled to take place Friday and Saturday.

Area teams compete in jamborees at various locations.

Jamborees consist of three to four teams getting together for a scrimmage type of event.

"Any coach would tell you that jamborees are a good barometer to see what things your team is doing well and what things need to be worked on," said St. Clair Head Coach John Butler. "It's good to finally go against different schools. When the lights turn on, it gives us a chance to see who can play."

General Jamboree Rules

* No scores are kept and no winner is determined. The event is an opportunity for coaches and players to see live opposition and for fans to get to see their team in action.

* Each team gets a total of 36 offensive plays for the event. That is broken down to 12 plays against each of the other schools in a four-team event or 18 plays against a school for a three-team jamboree.

* Plays with accepted penalties do not count against that number, as they are not official plays.

* Schools can set up scenarios, such as first and goal from the 10, a goal line series, field goals, or starting at a normal starting spot, as long as the other school agrees and there are plays remaining in that scrimmage.

"It's a great chance to see how kids react in certain situations against other competition," said Washington Head Coach Zach Schneider.
