As an independent voter, we agree with Sen. Claire McCaskill maybe half of the time. We admire her for her independence on some issues, but we're not with her on other issues.

Recently, Sen. McCaskill was one of the most vocal critics in the House of a proposal to add $330 million to the budget for four new executive luxury aircrafts for the Pentagon's 89th Airlift Wing. The proposal was grounded before it got airborne.

Sen. McCaskill said the proposal was the "wrong message at the wrong time."

Sen. McCaskill has never been bashful about speaking her mind on issues. She has been vocal since Day 1 in the Senate. She didn't sit back and just listen before speaking up. She became an active participant right after taking the oath of office.

The aircraft proposal was just one of the many issues in which she has been vocal, particularly when it comes to spending measures. She is a strong advocate of oversight and keeping a watchful eye over the awarding of government contracts. She has introduced more reform legislation in two years than some senators with many years in the Senate. She is a watchdog over our tax dollars.

She falls short when it comes to helping small businesses. Her support of President Obama on some of his policies and proposals has not been acceptable to the middle-of-the-road voter.

The junior senator from Missouri has handled Town Hall meetings well. She doesn't back off from protesters and does her best to explain issues and answers questions frankly with a sincere tone.

Sen. McCaskill is as tough as she is spunky. We would like to root for her a higher percentage of the time but can't. She's tied too closely to some of the Obama policies and proposals that we can't digest regardless of the sugar-coated words that they are wrapped with.

It was interesting
the way the Missourian endorsed her in the primaries. It worked in the election for govenor when you wanted to put up a 'sick sister' against the 'Boy' Matt Blunt, but your tactics failed when she had to go up against Jim 'big business' Talent. An eighth grader can see you guys.

Doesn't sound like...
a middle of the road voter to me. The author sounds like a conservative republican who would like to project a "middle of the road" image in order to protect circulation.

Claire has been fantastic and is the embodiment of "middle of the road".
