Christina Hickl agreed, "I like the way they organized it. We actually sold everything in the first 20 minutes,"
Doni Schaefer added: "They definitely should repeat it, maybe even two times a year."
Some shoppers came from over 90 miles away to attend the sale, Hoffmann said.
"I have been handing out booklets this morning, and people came from as far away as Jefferson City and Mexico," she said.
She said that many visitors learned about the sale from the billboards on Highway 70 at Foristell and High Hill. When they called to inquire, Hoffmann sent them a copy of the listing booklet via e-mail.
Two visitors, Nick and Abby Deroy, traveled from Moscow Mills to shop the yard sales with their grandmother, Kim Narsh.
"We came treasure hunting and we're having a great time," Narsh said.
One shopper, Rose Curtis, came all the way from Indiana with the intention of attending the event.
"I love yard sales, so I planned my visit around the sale," Curtis said.
Feedback to Hoffmann also was very positive. She explained that the free listing booklet that was passed out to shoppers was a big hit. The booklet included a map of the preregistered yard sale, directions and descriptions of items for sale at each residence.
Hoffmann feels that local businesses also benefited from the sale.
"Many cars that have stopped by for a booklet have just come from local restaurants," she said. "I think this event brought in a lot of traffic for local businesses as well."
Hoffmann feels that the Citywide Yard Sale was the perfect event for these difficult economic times.
"This event is a good fit for this year's economy," she said. "You can enjoy it on any budget.
"Local businesses and residents within the city limits can generate revenue and take advantage of the opportunity to clean out."
