Anthony "Tony" J. Filla, 85, Washington, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2009, in Washington.

Mr. Filla was born Nov. 7, 1923, in Washington, the son of Gus Filla and wife Julia, nee Bleckman.

He received his education from St. Francis Borgia Grade School.

On July 19, 1947, he was united in marriage to Elvera Kuenzel.

Mr. Filla served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was employed by International Shoe and Continental Forwarding Service. He also was a custodian for St. Francis Borgia School.

Mr. Filla was a member of St. Francis Borgia Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and one sister, Rosemary Freitag.

Mr. Filla is survived by one son, Robert Filla, Washington; one daughter, Betty Coleman and husband Ed, Union; two brothers, James Filla and wife Ina and Lou Filla and wife Dorothy, all of Washington; one sister, Mary Lou Wunderlich and husband Roman, Washington; six grandchildren, Lisa Stryker, Sherri Kleekamp, Julie and Gerard Horstmann and Scott and Nick Filla; three great-grandchildren, Dalton and Katlyn Filla and Joseph Stryker; one sister-in-law, Lavern Fleer and husband Ken, Washington; nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and many friends.

A funeral Mass was held Thursday, June 11, at St. Francis Borgia Church, Washington, with the Rev. Greg Klump officiating.

Burial was in the church cemetery.

Memorials to the Pregnancy Assistance Center or Masses are preferred.

The family was served by Nieburg-Vitt Funeral Home, Washington.
