The Missouri National Guard will honor nearly 170 soldiers from the 1175th Military Police Company in St. Clair and St. Louis at Freedom Salute ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, June 7, in the Union High School gymnasium.

The soldiers will be recognized for their service in Iraq.

The guard members returned in February after nearly a year overseas, where they were deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The soldiers were assigned to the 728th Military Police Battalion from Hawaii.

While in theater, the unit served as part of a police transition team that helped Iraqi National Police learn their role and become an independent and proficient force within the country.

The company conducted 2,421 combat patrol missions on some of the most dangerous roads in Iraq and helped operate 37 police stations.

* Number of IP stations assigned/validated -37/3;

The Freedom Salute campaign is one of the Army National Guard's largest recognition endeavors. Since 2003, it has acknowledged more than 100,000 soldiers, family members, employers and other very important people for their contributions and support.

During the ceremony, individual soldiers will be recognized for awards and certificates and the unit will receive honors for its service.

Company History

The 1175th Military Police Company was reorganized and reactivated on Oct. 1, 2006, under the 205th Military Police Battalion, located in Poplar Bluff. The 1175th is headquartered in St. Clair.

The company's mission, on order, is to mobilize and deploy to a theater of operation and perform military police combat support, force protection and company sustainment operations.

Since reactivation, the unit has responded to three state emergency duty activations and one FBI search and rescue mission.

The unit mobilized in February of 2008 to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

In 2008, 1175th REAR attended Golden Coyote Training Exercise in South Dakota, was activated and responded in support of Operation Waterfall, Operation Gustav Relief and Operation January Ice.
