The St. Clair Bulldogs are track and field champions of Class 3.

Competing Friday and Saturday at the MSHSAA track and field championships at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, St. Clair shared first-place team honors in the Class 3 boys ranks with Sikeston. Both teams scored 44 points.

Ruskin finished third with 41 points followed by West Plains with 39, Staley with 38 and Potosi with 37.

Leading the Bulldogs was senior Richard York, who earned all-state honors in all four events in which he participated, scoring 29 of the team's 44 points.

York won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in a time of 38.52, posted second-place finishes in both the 110-meter high hurdles in 14.52 and the pole vault by clearing 14-6 and was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 21-5 1/2.

Also earning all-state honors and scoring team points for St. Clair were Brett Jones in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles, second in 39.03, William Aitch in the 110-meter high hurdles, sixth in 15.03, and the 1,600-meter relay team of Josh Krueger, William Missey, Jones and Aitch, fifth in 3:25.

A number of other area athletes also earned all-state honors.

Reaching all-state status in Class 3 were Borgia's Matt Mee in both the 200- and 400-meter dash and Sarah Meiners in both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter run, Union's Jarred Cahill in both the shot put and the discus and Sullivan's Maggie Brueggemann in the shot put.

Area state medalists in Class 4 were Washington's Anna Holtermann in both the girls high jump and the long jump and the 3,200-meter girls relay team of Rebecca Brown, Molly Behr, Lauren Guasto and Celia Venezia.

More details on the state track and field meet will appear in future additions of the Missourian.
