The salutatorians are:
* Erica Sumner, daughter of Brian and Margarita Sumner, Washington; and
* Elin Feldmann, daughter of Randy and Christy Feldmann, Washington.
The valedictorians and salutatorians will all speak briefly at commencement.
This year, students who earn "high honors" and "honors" also will be recognized under a new program being implemented. The students who qualify will have a special insignia on their diploma.
The valedictorian and salutatorian honors will be eliminated next year.
Program
Principal Dr. Frank Wood will give the welcome.
The WHS orchestra, under the direction of Troy Bunkley, will play "Pomp and Circumstance" to open the ceremony.
Kyla Nieder, senior class vice president, will lead the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.
The choir will then perform the national anthem and school song, under the direction of Amy Perryman.
Dr. Wood will introduce special guests on the stage.
Assistant Principal Steve Pryor will introduce students who earned "honors" and Assistant Principal John Ragan will introduce the "high honors" students.
Kelle McCallum, associate principal, will introduce the graduation speakers - the four valedictorians and two salutatorians.
Superintendent Dr. Lori VanLeer will present the Class of 2009 and diplomas will be handed out by the board of education.
Class President Beth Hillerman will then lead the students in the turning of the tassels followed by closing remarks from Dr. Wood.
Commencement will be held outdoors on the football field, weather permitting. If it rains, the program will be moved into the gymnasium.
The class officers are Beth Hillermann, president; Kyla Nieder, vice president; Brianne Boland, secretary; Cameron Smith, treasurer; and Madeline Neavill and Spencer Neptune, student representatives.
Valedictorians
Brianna Behlman plans to attend Indiana University in the fall.
Scholarships and awards she has received include an IU Prestige Scholarship, Honors College Scholarship, SJH Spirit of Mercy Outstanding Youth Award and the John Hinrichs DDCA Scholarship.
At WHS, Behlman was involved in FBLA, Student Council, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Jay Crew and Leadership.
Brianne Boland plans to study journalism at the University of Missouri-Columbia this fall.
She has received the Missouri Bright Flight Scholarship, Curators Scholarship, KMOX Student Achievement Scholarship and Missouri Scholars 100 Honorable Mention.
Her school activities include volleyball, Chamber Choir, co-editor in chief of the school newspaper, Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, Theater Guild, senior class officer and Student Council.
Jessica Buenemann will attend East Central College in the fall and then plans to transfer to Missouri State University.
Her scholarships include the ECC Board of Trustees Scholarship, Julie Perry Foundation Scholarship at ECC, Viola M. Brockfeld Scholarship, Missouri State University Academic Scholarship, Truman State University President's Combined Ability Scholarship and Truman A+ Recognition Scholarship.
At WHS, Buenemann was involved in band, Student Council, Key Club, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, WYSE and A+ Tutoring.
Melissa Luechtefeld will attend the University of Missouri-Kansas City in the fall.
She received a Missouri Bright Flight Scholarship, UMKC Curators Scholarship, St. John's Mercy Hospital Scholarship and Patients First Health Care Scholarship.
Her school activities include Student Council, Leadership, band, Mu Alpha Theta president, National Honor Society secretary and Jay Crew.
Salutatorians
Erica Sumner will attend Turman State University this fall.
She received a Combined Ability Scholarship and A+ Recognition Scholarship.
At WHS, she was involved in volleyball, basketball, National Honor Society, Student Council, Leadership, Mu Alpha Theta and orchestra.
Elin Feldmann plans to study at East Central College and then transfer to Missouri Science and Technology in Rolla.
Her school activities include band (marching, pep, concert and jazz), Chamber Choir, Theater Guild, Fretless, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and All-District Choir for three years.
