St. Clair's first Farmers Market will be held this Friday afternoon.

The St. Clair Board of Aldermen have approved the St. Clair Area Chamber of Commerce request to start a farmers market in the downtown city park.

According to Chamber Executive Director Terry Triphahn, the market will be open every Friday throughout the summer and fall.

"The price is $50 for the whole season," she said. "We are excited to have people come out for this. I think it will be a great addition to our downtown."

Triphahn said the flat fee will cover the entire season.

"We think that is a reasonable price for our first season," she said.

The vendor fees will go to the Chamber Beautification fund.

For the first Friday, there are five confirmed vendors. They are:

* Angel Cake Bakery;

* Deb's Crafts & Baked Goods;

* Back to Nature Farms;

* Papin Quilts & Wooden Banks; and

* Mueller Mini-Farm.

Triphahn said interested vendors are still welcome to sign up.

"I expect it to pick up after this first week," she said.

Until vegetable crops are in, the market will feature baked goods, plants, quilts and wooden banks.

The market will be open from 3 p.m. until dusk every Friday evening until the end of October.

The market will offer fresh, locally grown produce, handcrafted items, eggs, baked goods, jellies and jams, herbs, cut flowers, bedding plants and other perennials.
