The workshop on "How to Buy and Use a Telescope" scheduled for Thursday, April 30, at 7 p.m. has changed venues due to a weather forecast. The workshop will be held in the municipal ourtroom in the basement of city hall.
The workshop is being held in conjunction with the "Visions of the Universe: Four Centuries of Discovery" exhibit at the Washington Public Library.
Ray Mueller and other members of the Eastern Missouri Dark Sky Observers will explain different kinds of telescopes and what to look for when purchasing a telescope. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own telescopes, if they already own them, and get tips on how to better use or adjust them.
If the sky is clear, EMDSO members will have telescopes set up for attendees to look through.
The library's "Build-a-Planet" contest is now under way. The deadline for entries is May 11.
Children who are interested in building one of the planets in the solar system may call the library at 636-390-1070 for contest details. The planets which are chosen as the best depictions will be displayed along the Rotary Riverfront Trail during a Fun Walk/Run through the Solar System Saturday, May 16.
Contest winners will be announced and prizes awarded at 9 a.m. that morning at the Rennick Pavilion.
