The tower will house an AT&T antenna and is aimed at improving service along Highways 30 and 47, as well as coverage in Lake St. Clair.
No one objected to the tower at the March public hearing.
The board also approved Dean and Dinell Edwards' request for a Conditional Use Permit to operate a campground in the Agricultural Non Urban (ANU) zone.
The property is located in Lonedell on Little Indian Creek Road, approximately one-half mile west of the intersection of Little Indian Creek Road and Rye Creek Road.
Several neighbors objected to the plan at the March public hearing.
The couple owns 98 acres, but the CUP request was for a 62-acre parcel. Dinell Edwards told the board in March she was an equestrian who wanted to use her property for horse rides and weekend camping. She anticipated renting seven of her nine horses out and allowing horse owners to bring their animals.
Hunting trips also would be allowed in season.
Many objected to her planned use of Missouri Department of Conservation horse trails in the area, saying too many people on the trails would cause the trails to close.
Edwards would need to take her riders up Little Indian Creek about one-half mile to get to the trails.
The board limited the number of campsites on the property to 25, saying that if the venture was successful, the Edwardses could come and request permission to allow more campers.
The board also added a requirement that the site meet all Department of Natural Resources and health department regulations for campgrounds. The gate on the site will close at midnight, with quiet hours being imposed after 10 p.m.
New Business
The commission held a public hearing and recommended approval of Keith Record's request to rezone a 2.8-acre lot from Agricultural Non-Urban (ANU) to Commercial Activity 3/Community Business (CA-3).
The property is located on Highway AT just south of Hilltop Road.
Record, a prospective buyer for the property, wants to knock down the homes on the site and put his utility construction business on the property.
The site would be surrounded by a 6-foot-high fence and would house construction equipment and an office.
The hours of operation would be from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The commission's recommendation for rezoning will be sent to the Franklin County Commission for its approval or denial.
Preliminary Plats
The board approved CEI Engineering INC's request to create a two-lot major subdivision in a Commercial Activity/Highway Service (CA) zone.
The 4.3-acre property is located at the intersection of Highway AT and Old Highway 100.
CEI represents Dollar General, which will be placing a store on one of the lots.
