NASC and NHS promote and provide leadership development opportunities to prepare and empower students to serve their schools and communities.
SCHS also offers a leadership class for student leaders and those interested in learning and improving leadership qualities. This is the second year for the class.
The leadership class, along with Student Council and NHS, is spearheading the week's events.
In conjunction with the theme, "Step Up and Go Green," student leaders at SCHS have planned special activities to showcase the many ways involvement in student leadership helps prepare young people for their roles in life.
Throughout the week, students will be "Stepping Up and Going Green" by promoting leadership and service in the community and school.
Activities include:
* Saturday, April 18 - Student leaders will assist in the St. Clair City Pool Clean-Up Day.
* Sunday, April 19 - NHS members will pick up trash along Highway 47 in memory of David and Jesse Busby.
The trash pickup also will be held on Wednesday.
* Monday, April 20 - Students will attend the city council meeting to observe leaders in action.
* Wednesday, April 22 - Students will host a pancake breakfast for the high school faculty in appreciation for all they do.
* Saturday, April 25 - Aluminum can collection at SCHS Ag building parking lot from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
All of the funds collected will go to The House That Kids Built project for Habitat for Humanity.
Throughout the week student leaders will be collecting clothes to benefit the local Agape House.
Students are encouraged to bring in a large trash bag filled with nice, clean clothing items to be reused.
All donators will be awarded a special prize.
A hat-day fundraiser also will be occurring during the week to benefit the city fireworks fund. The students see the fundraiser as a great way to give back to their community.
Spirit Days for the week are as follows:
* Monday - Club T-shirt Day;
* Tuesday - Reduce Pollution Day;
* Wednesday - Reduce Laundry Day and Reduce Paper Day;
* Thursday - Reduce Electricity Day; and
* Friday - Arbor Day.
Also on Friday, leadership class students will be planting a tree on campus in celebration of Arbor Day.
The tree is being donated by Patton's Nursery.
"The measure of a good leader is not how far ahead or above they lead, but the degree to which they are willing to dig in, dig down, and help get things done," said Principal Vicki Enyart.
