Following are the eight photojournalists inducted into the Missouri Photojournalism Hall of Fame Thursday:Missouri to promote photography in journalism.
* Cliff and Vi Edom, who worked as a team at the University of Missouri to promote photography in journalism. Cliff often is credited with inventing the term "photojournalism." Among other things, they founded the Pictures of the Year competition and the Missouri Photo Workshop.
* Angus "Mac" McDougall, who directed the photojournalism sequence at the university from 1972-1982. McDougall also was a recipient this year of the University of Missouri Honor Medal for Distinguished Service in Journalism.
* Arthur Witman, a St. Louis Post-Dispatch photographer who distinguished himself with aerial work, including photos of the construction of the Gateway Arch. He also received the university's distinguished service in journalism award in 1964.
* Jack Zehrt, a St. Louis Globe-Democrat and freelance photographer who captured a picture of a glider carrying the St. Louis mayor crashing to the ground in 1943 and later focused extensively on photos of objects in space.
* Bob Briggs, who traveled the world taking pictures for the St. Louis Globe-Democrat and for Life and Time magazines. He introduced 35 millimeter cameras to news photography in the St. Louis region.
* Charles Stacey, whose 28-year career at The Salem News documented the lives of rural people and whose photos won first place five years in a row in Missouri Press Association contests.
* Betty Love, who pioneered the use of color photography at the Springfield Daily News and Leader-Press as one of the first female photojournalists, beginning there in 1941. She was a charter member of the National Press Photographers Association.
