Preschool students at Immanuel Lutheran School turned serious as they prayed for Grandparents Day Thursday, Nov. 19. The event had a Thanksgiving theme with students singing songs and saying prayers of thanks for their grandparents. The day included crafts and pumpkin pie that was made by the preschoolers. Santa Claus was at Roller and Company salon in Washington recently getting his hair and beard primped and permed for the busy holiday season. As Bill Roller worked on Santa's hair, Santa made his list of good children and checked it twice. From here he was headed back to the North Pole.

The 25th annual Union Middle School Parent-Teacher Organization's fall craft show was held Saturday and Sunday at the school. More than 270 booths were filled with a variety of items during the event that attracted thousands to the school. The PTO strives to have items that are handmade and that are suitable for shopper's needs.

A house fire that occurred Wednesday evening in Sullivan was started by an occupant attempting to smoke squirrels out from under their roof, according to Sullivan Fire Deputy Chief Larry Flesher.
