Carissa Eichmeyer, camp counselor, leaps over tires in an obstacle course at a track and field day event Wednesday, July 1. The obstacle course was sponsored by Camp Washington, a day camp put on by the Washington Parks Department. Many young campers participated in running events, Hula-Hoop contests, games and other fun activities during the track and field day.

Washington firefighters responded to a car fire Tuesday night, June 30, at the intersection of First and Boone streets. Bernice Buhr, the driver of the car, had returned to her home at 702 E. First St., when she noticed smoke coming from the engine. Firefighters were on the scene for about half of an hour. Washington Fire Department Photo.

Seven girders were installed at the site of the Church Street bridge Wednesday. The 33-ton hunks of steel and concrete are 100 feet long and 4 feet tall. The girders are the main support pieces of the bridge. Construction is expected to be complete in late August.

Accident on Route TT
No serious injuries were reported in a single-vehicle accident that occurred on Route TT southeast of St. Clair Tuesday. According to St. Clair firefighters on the scene, the driver lost control, left the roadway and overturned in heavy brush. A tree kept the car from falling into a steep embankment. The name of the driver has not been released.
