UPDATE: A Union man, Troy W. Manasco, 37, was killed in a two-car crash on Highway 50, just east of Progress Parkway Wednesday, Jan. 24.
According to Union police, Manasco was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt westbound on Highway 50 at 7:48 p.m. when he crossed the centerline and struck a 2009 Volkswagon Jetta being driven by Clairine A. Zeagel, 27, St. Louis.
Union fire and ambulance extracted both Zeagel and her passenger, Wayne R.H. Shoults, 30, Union, who both were transported to Mercy Hospital Washington and then Mercy Hospital St. Louis. Both Zeagel and Shoults were wearing seat belts, police said.
Manasco was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt, according to police.
The Missouri Department of Transportation assisted in traffic control during the investigation.
Highway 50 was closed for approximately four and a half hours Wednesday night and also will be closed Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon for further investigation.
PREVIOUS STORY: Use caution while traveling on Highway 50 East in Union. The highway is closed in both directions while a two-vehicle crash is investigated. Closures are at Progress Parkway and South Outer 50. Traffic is being rerouted to Denmark and Old Highway 50.
The highway is expected to be closed for several hours.
