UPDATE: The boil order was lifted Tuesday afternoon.
PREVIOUS STORY: Several area businesses and residents in the downtown Union area are under a precautionary boil order Monday.
City Administrator Russell Rost said the order came after a water main break in an isolated area along East State Street and North Oak to Main streets.
The water main repair has been completed and city crews are knocking on doors to make direct contact with those affected.
Most of those impacted are businesses, but there are several homes affected. If crews are unable to reach someone, a door hanger will be left at the residence.
Those who have not been contacted are not under a boil order, Rost noted.
The order will be in place until lab tests are returned Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest, Rost said, adding that some businesses will be impacted and others will not.
"It depends on the connection," he said.
If there are concerns or residents are unsure if they're part of the order, they can call city hall, 636-583-3600.
