To The Editor:

Congress has tried to pass one law and eliminate another.

They tried to pass a farm bill, excluding food stamps. Many in Congress and the population do not feel we should support recipients who are not taking care of themselves.

The strange thing to me is that most of these same people are in favor of supporting those who will not take care of themselves in health care. We pay thousands of dollars in added insurance premiums to support them, plus in Missouri, we pay for them to receive about $600,000,000 in taxes to receive emergency room care.

Why do some support one plan to keep people alive, but not the other? Shouldn’t we mandate those who can afford insurance to take care of themselves? Mandate sounds like a good word, not evil, as some say.
