To The Editor:
JDRF Greater Missouri and Southern Illinois Chapter is exercising bragging rights about the determined Woodruff family! Features Editor, Karen Cernich (Committed to Carter’s Crew) really captured the fear and frustration when Carter was diagnosed with T1D (type 1 diabetes). Parents, Melissa and Matt Woodruff, experienced the predictable range of emotions — anger, sadness, and guilt.
JDRF was there for Carter and his family. Until there is a cure, we provide information that helps the newly diagnosed and their families cope with the burdens T1D imposes.
Whether someone has T1D, or is the parent or loved one of a person who is insulin-dependent, it takes time to adapt to the day-to-day demands of the disease. But treatment options are improving all the time, and type 1 diabetes will not prevent Carter or anyone from living a full and active life. With medical and emotional support, people with T1D and their families learn to cope with, and even thrive in spite of, the demands that the disease imposes.
The Woodruff family is doing all they can to raise T1D awareness and research funds. We salute and thank them! Stl.jdrf.org
