To The Editor:

I recently read with interest a letter to the editor from Mr. Gene Biermann regarding the three original football coaches at Washington High School.

While it is a well-written and heartfelt letter, I must point out what I believe is an inaccuracy. The three original WHS football coaches in the mid-’60s when Washington restarted the football program were Coaches Jim Scanlan, John Carter and Tom Nuernberger with Coach Eickmeyer being a slightly later addition to the staff.

I point this out as I had very high regard for Coach Nuernberger who also coached the Rams in the Little League Football program and installed in me a love for the game that I still have today.

Congratulations to Coach Scanlan on a fine career and well-deserved honor.
