GOP Trying to Sabotage Voting Process
By Charles G. Coy, Washington
The Missourian
To The Editor:
In all my 77 years, never have I seen politicians who are supposed to represent the people of the United States disrespect the highest office of our country, the president’s office.
One must remember he is still the president of the United States and the most powerful leader of the free world.
Our elected politicians should be working together to get us out of this economic condition, but they would rather destroy the country.
Some of our politicians (Republicans) are so busy working to get the president out of office that they are not doing what they were elected to do. These politicians are destroying the honor and trust we once had in them.
For example, from the get go, U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, Senate minority leader, said he was going to make Obama a one-term president.
Many Republicans, in states where they control the general assemblies, appear so afraid that President Obama will be re-elected, they are willing to make it difficult for some Americans to vote. This is extreme and these politicians should be ashamed to say they represent a democracy. They have enacted voter ID laws.
How can we go to other countries and fight for their democracy and the citizens of the United States are losing theirs? The rest of the world is watching. They see how one party is trying to sabotage the whole voting process.
I remember there was a time in our great nation when people died for the right for women and blacks to vote. It remains to be seen if making it difficult for some Americans to vote will win the Republicans the White House.
Also, may I say the deceitful trap we set for others may be the trap that catches you.
