To The Editor:

The Sept. 22, 2012, edition of the Editor’s Notebook column includes the sentence, “It must be pointed out the majority of Big Media was liberal before Obama was born, wherever that happened.”

That sentence contains, in large measure, the answer to the author’s specious and loaded question “... why we have so many liberals in the Big Media?”

The answer is simple. Far too often, self-described conservative journalists deal in innuendo, baseless accusation and dog whistle slander. If one of these journalists doesn’t believe that President Barack Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Aug. 4, 1961, that journalist should be blunt, take responsibility for the view, and state their opinion. Anything less is pandering to conspiracy theorists while hiding behind the skirts of candid skepticism.

The Editor’s Notebook column does disservice to The Missourian’s reputation for honest and forthright expression of opinion when it caters to those people.
