Blunt Reveals Ultra-Conservative Self
By Charles G. Coy, Washington
The Missourian
To The Editor:
U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt of Missouri attacked President Barack Obama during a press conference in Kansas City recently, saying the president needed to get off his high horse and start cooperating with Blunt and his fellow Republicans.
Blunt is a joke.
He said, “How do you get anything done if you immediately start telling the other side that they have to work with you, ‘I’m not going to work with you on this.’
Now what kind of start is that to a new administration?”
The fact is the president tried to work with the other side during his first four years. Gosh, wasn’t the Republican game to say “no” to anything the Democratic president wanted?
Before the president was sworn in his first term, the Republicans conjured up ways to submarine his presidency at a private dinner in Washington. And, of course, Republican members dictated their thoughts that they were going to make Obama a one-term president. By opposing everything he wanted to do. (Guess what, the GOP failed and now they whine and don’t get it.)
Just look what President George W. Bush said after winning re-election: “Let me put it to you this way: I earned capital in the campaign, political capital, and now I intend to spend it.”
One more thing: Blunt’s comments were supposed to be important on the Obama administration because he was thought to be not one of those ultra-conservative Republicans who always vote “no” against the president’s wishes.
Except Blunt’s voting record shows he pretty much does that. He voted against Obama’s stimulus package, Obama’s health care reform and other Obama ideas.
Sen. Blunt revealed his ultra-conservative Republican self in Kansas City.
