Councilman Upset With Editorial

To The Editor:

It seems to me and many other citizens in Washington and the surrounding area, that if you don’t agree with every proposal, that the city puts forth, you are branded as someone with little foresight who doesn’t care about the future of our city.

The editorial in the Dec. 26 paper implies that secret meetings were held by certain councilmen prior to the annexation vote, Sunshine Laws were broken and perhaps these council members were unable to take the “heat” generated by the opponents of the annexation.

I saw at the meeting perhaps two to three citizens who were concerned about this issue and had been to most of the meetings prior to this. People who are concerned about their future in a time when our country is on the verge of bankruptcy, taxes are being raised and will keep increasing while our government is blindly borrowing more and more even though 45 cents on every dollar spent is borrowed money at this time.

As a councilman and citizen, I respect the opinions on both sides of the aisle on this and all issues concerning our city, we all have the right to voice our opinions, but making unfounded accusations, such as your editorial did, goes beyond “good journalism.”
