To The Editor:

I was pleased to read of the planned development of a 46-unit senior living center in Union.

However, as a business owner in Union, I was offended by the community development director’s remark that, “These people are still active. They will be shopping in Wal-Mart and participating in senior activities. They will be a part of the town. It’s a win for everybody.”

I would hope they would venture a little farther than Wal-Mart for their shopping as there are other places in Union to shop.

Platt Nursery has been in business for 40 years — long before Wal-Mart was around. There also are many other local businesses that have much to offer and are having a tough time staying in business with the bad economy. Encouraging people to shop only at Wal-Mart will not be a “win for everybody.”
