To The Editor:

Fox 2 News reported that the St. Louis Zoo wants a multi-billion dollar expansion and it wants businesses and residents of St. Charles, St. Louis, Franklin and other counties to foot the bill with higher property taxes and it wants to start charging admission on top of that.

Can they legally increase our taxes to pay for another city’s/county’s operating costs? What can we do to prevent this?

If St. Louis can’t live within its means does it really need the expansion? There are a lot of people in our county who live at or below the poverty line. They should not be forced to give up their homes because of high taxes to pay for a zoo for St. Louis residents.

I can understand charging admission, but not higher property taxes.
