To The Editor:

This is to disagree with Darin Gilley in Feb. 16-17 comment about unions. I would like to know when the labor law took effect that one did not have to pay union dues.

My husband worked for years for a tree service company. He was required to join the union. After he was hurt on the job, he could no longer trim trees, so he had to look for other work where he did not need to do heights. He took a truck driving job, and again had to join a union.

He then went to work for a construction company, at first driving a truck, but word got around he was a mechanic, and a good one, and they put him to work fixing trucks. Again, he had to join another union.

He had to carry a paid-up card. Someone came around checking.

What unions do not demand dues?
