To The Editor:

The book “The Roots of Obama’s Rage” was the basis for the movie “2016” which impressed several readers of this newspaper. Please be advised that the book does not support the claim of rage in either Barack Obama Sr. or Barack Obama Jr.

Obama’s father abandoned his family when Obama was a very small child. His only contact with his father was when he spoke to Obama Junior’s elementary school class, about 20 minutes. I hardly think this is enough time to transmit neocolonial values and shape personality.

Please note that Dinesh D’Souza does not have any credentials in political science, psychology, history or literature. He earned a bachelor’s degree and went to work for the Reagan White House. I know of no other college presidents who have not earned advanced degrees and successfully engaged in scholarly research.

The book was published by Regnerary Publishing which is known for publishing far right political material with no regard for objectivity. I regard it as political pornography. It may be satisfying to read but does not aid in the search for truth in the current political milieu.

Conservative critics have taken exception to the book. Daniel Larisson of “The American Conservative” states, “Dinesh D’Souza has authored what may possibly be the most ridiculous piece of Obama analysis yet written. ... All in all, D’Souza’s article reads like a bad conspiracy theory.” Andrew Ferguson of “The Weekly Standard” writes, “D’Souza always sees absence of evidence as evidence of something or other.”
