To The Editor:
Amid the many negative issues that face us every day, there are times when we need to focus on the positive.
For instance, as the sanctity of marriage is being challenged, The Missourian publishes photos of couples who have stayed married for as many as 60-plus years. When the sanctity of life is cheapened by abortion, murder and other abuses, there are organizations that contribute to helping the poor, the needy and the hopeless. We have dedicated policemen, firemen, rescue workers who protect us from harm. When we are downcast, we meet people on the street who greet us with a smile or a wave.
This past week I was at the cashier’s counter to pay for the purchases that I made. Not being able to immediately find the money and at a place that doesn’t accept checks or charge cards, a young woman next in line without hesitation handed over cash to pay, not wanting any repayment. In the meantime, I did find the hidden bill that was sufficient to make payment.
The point is, here in Washington, Mo., we have so much and so many people to be thankful for.
“If God is for us, who can be against us?” Fear is useless. What is needed is trust.
