To The Editor:
Thousands of immigrants have entered the United States through the southern borders of our country in the past weeks, and it appears it will continue; according to the news reports these immigrants have been treated well.
This is not the case of Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi, a Marine who was arrested on a weapons charge after accidentally crossing the Mexican border in Tijuana March 31. He has been held in a Mexican penitentiary without bail and did not have a hearing until last week; he was questioned for nine hours, the judge will not make a decision until the first week of August.
The Marines who served with Andrew are disappointed with our public officials that they have not tried to help Andrew who completed two tours in Afghanistan.
I have called and written to our president and senators to use their influence to have Tahmooressi released. I received a reply from our Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer that the members of Congress have contacted the State Department and are calling for diplomatic intervention.
Please write to our president and senators to persuade the Mexican officials to release Tahmooressi.
