Dear Editor and Folks of Franklin and surrounding counties:

The Jim Pounds Memorial Tennis Tournament was held the first week of June, organized by the Franklin County Community Tennis Association.

Jim Pounds worked tirelessly to promote the sport of tennis in Washington, and received numerous awards for his efforts.

There were 53 participants in the tournament who ranged from children to seniors, beginners to advanced. We had a great time and the weather was very cooperative.

It is really exciting to see how the sport of tennis is growing in this area and we’re so glad that the new tennis courts by Phoenix Park are progressing.

We only hope that the courts in the Optimist Park aren’t converted into the skating park until the new courts are playable.

If you haven’t tried tennis yet, I invite you to try it. It really is a sport for all ages.
