To The Editor:

I write this letter during the time and season of the year when you are supposed to be merry and festive. Instead I find myself in a state of being confused, saddened and cynical.

I am confused about what our government officials at all levels are doing to our society. I am confused by the fact our government officials seem to not have a grasp of the consciousness of its public.

The “fiscal cliff” looms bigger and bigger every day yet the folks who have the ability to make compromises and develop consensus seem to have no moral compass and continue to sit on their thumbs and politically harangue one another. Our economy is so delicate right now that for us to go over the fiscal cliff will immediately throw us into another recession, which will be worse than the one we are supposed to be coming out of.

If our Congress goes home for Christmas without getting a deal done they should all be voted out of their respective offices.

I am saddened by the fact that our president is making a “knee-jerk” reaction about gun control. He is throwing all sorts of political rhetoric around about what he is going to do about changing the laws to toughen up the gun laws. Yet when it comes to “fast and furious” and the ATF Scandal he won’t acknowledge that guns from a program he authorized fell into the wrong hands.

Then there is the Benghazi situation in which Americans were sacrificed and killed because our president and members of the State Department failed to do their jobs. To add further disgrace to the scandal, all of a sudden our Secretary of State Hilary Clinton has this new so-called “diplomatic disease,” a headache. My head hurts thinking about the mess!

I am cynical because there just seems to be no answer in sight. I try to be positive in my thought process, but I just can’t see any light at the end of the tunnel. Maybe I am having a case of the “Bah Humbug” and feel like I am scrooged. At least the world didn’t end on December 21st.

Let’s hope that 2013 gets things going in the right direction.
