To The Editor:

Most of us don’t think about where our power comes from when we flip a light switch, turn on the television, or even open the garage door.

As legislators consider important energy legislation in Jefferson City, we need to think a little more about just how our power got so reliable. Power is there when we need it because of proactive investments in power lines, substations and power plants.

If we want to continue having affordable, reliable power, we need legislation like Senate Bill 207/House Bill 398, Infrastructure Strengthening and Regulatory Streamlining.

It’s clear that now is the time to make new investments in energy. We need to create jobs. Labor is available and interest rates are low. Study after study, including the latest infrastructure report card from the American Society of Civil Engineers, notes that this country is falling behind on infrastructure.

We can address some of these issues right now in Missouri, with ISRS legislation. I hope our legislators start to move faster on this bill.

ISRS legislation will provide our communities with much needed investments in infrastructure, and it will keep our monthly rates low and predictable. I know that as a consumer, we need to make sure we are adequately protected. I’ve noted that as this legislation has moved through the Legislature, it seems they keep adding more consumer protections. Certainly, the Public Service Commission has more than enough authority to ensure that investments are made wisely.

I want to make sure the great state of Missouri is not left behind on infrastructure. ISRS can help to ensure that doesn’t happen.
