Letters to Editor a Worthwhile Option
By Doug Rich, Washington
The Missourian
To The Editor:
Writing a letter to the editor may seem like a waste of time to some, but then again it is a way to let your voice be heard, so to speak, or so to write I should say.
Perhaps you have an idea or opinion and may shy away, questioning if it is worthy or of any interest to be printed. You never know until you try!
Some time ago, I along with others, missed having a grocery store downtown. I wrote a letter in regard to a possible or suitable location. Since that letter, on Third Street between Lafayette and Oak, the old car wash is now being used for storage rental, and the old Hub rental building is demolished.
Even if downtown does not get a store, at least someone took an interest in those old eyesores. Eventually, that stretch of Third Street will look a whole lot better. I can’t say for sure if my letter had any impact, but maybe it opened up some eyes. Dressing up downtown may lead to many positive results down the road. Downtown is looking better all the time!
I would like to thank The Missourian for printing letters I submit, and I should apologize if I submit way too many. Just maybe I wrote one letter that was not in vain. If you want your voice to be heard, maybe a letter to the editor could be a worthwhile option.
