To The Editor:
Whenever I can, I ask my Republican friends these questions:
Do you really want to live in a place where almost everybody carries a gun on his waist, concealed or in her purse?
Do you really want to change Medicare to a voucher system?
Do you really believe that health care for everyone in this country is a bad idea?
Do you really believe that voter fraud is rampant, and we need tougher voter registration laws and policing at the polls?
Do you believe that a “right to work” state will create more jobs and better pay for workers?
Do you really want the government to force women carrying a terribly deformed fetus to take that pregnancy to term?
Believe me, almost always the answer I get to all these questions is “No.” So my question is, “Well, explain to me, why are you still a Republican?”
The answer I usually get is, “I just don’t like Obama and big government.”
That to me is not a reasonable or adequate answer. Also, I do not know why anyone would vote for representatives in government who promote these ideas.
