To The Editor:
I want to recommend the Franklin County Silver Games to half the people, supposing we all live to 100 years. Yes, you who are 50 years and above need to participate.
I turned 50 and was told about the games from a St. Louis World War II veteran who attended Honor Flight, 90 years of age now.
You do not need to “feel” old or be a professional. We do this for fun, socializing, community exchange conversation, a bit of a challenge, and something out of ordinary routine life.
This has been going on 23 years, involving 23 events in Washington, Union, St. Clair, Sullivan and Pacific.
This year it was in September, Saturday-Thursday. The cost of $15 included an official shirt, entry fees, (less than $1 an event), food, medals (when earned) and a picnic.
So unless you work six days a week you may want to come join us.
Events are: Tennis, water and land volleyball, cycling, swimming, golf, mini golf, shuffleboard, canasta, bridge, billiards, BB-gun shoot, bowling, electronic darts, horseshoes, track and field, Pickle-ball, dominoes Mexican train, washers, pinochle, table tennis and dancing.
Hope to see you next year.
